Guest Spotlight: The Ferrante Family’s RV Upgrade

For long-time RVers, there’s nothing more fun than planning your next big RV upgrade! For Holly and Biagio Ferrante, who have vacationed at Paradise by the Sea for 16 years, that upgrade came this past year. They special-ordered a 36’ Voltage 3200 Toyhauler 5th wheel that arrived right after Thanksgiving. Definitely something to be thankful for!

Holly’s sister Heidi now uses their original trailer for her growing family in the campsite next door (son Wilson is 2). “When our boys were young, the bunk beds in the smaller trailer were fine,” explains Holly. “But now, they’re both six-foot tall! We also knew we wanted a larger rig for when we retire, and figured it would be a good idea to start making payments now while we’re both still working.”

Their idea has really paid off, changing their summer vacation experience in a fun new way. “We definitely have a more luxurious vacation experience. The tall ceilings make it a high-profile trailer. We have a queen size bed in the master with plenty of closet space, and the toy hauler has two king beds in the back. We figure it’s perfect for when our sons get married and the whole family vacations together.”

The shiny Voltage sleeps 8 adults comfortably, and includes a nice sized kitchen and fridge, which was a big perk for Holly. “I really wanted the double-wide fridge and freezer. That was a big selling point for me.”

The Ferrante’s also special ordered real paint and thicker fiberglass, instead of paint designs that are simply decals. “It causes the trailer to weigh more, but it will last longer and weather better,” she explains.

A remote controls the double awning, slides, and lights. The back end of the toyhauler is a perfect place for storing bikes and coolers, and serves as a resting spot for their beautiful golden retrievers. “We really wanted to be able to start bringing our dogs with us on vacation, and now we have a place and room for them, which is great because they’re part of the family, says Holly.

The Ferrante’s have made a tradition out of spending every Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend at Paradise, along with a week or two in between. This year, they even joined us for New Year’s and Easter!  “Paradise really is our favorite place,” she says.
“We wouldn’t camp anywhere else in San Diego County. The amenities are great— the pool, Jacuzzi and nice bathrooms—and it’s a family friendly place.”

Of course, a huge draw at Paradise is the beach! The Ferrante’s sons, now 17 and 20, enjoy surfing the waves at Buccaneer Beach. (Her older son is serving our country in Afghanistan this summer.) “They used to boogie board, but Andy (17) has started surfing. And the nice thing about the beach is that if it’s crowded, you can walk north or south a block to have plenty of space.”

If you’re new to Rving or are just new to Paradise, here are some of Holly’s tips! “Bring a wagon or beach cart to carry your supplies to the beach.  Also, use the park! Buccaneer Park is a great place to run your dogs, and kids just love the playground.”

The next time you’re staying at Paradise and you see a shiny Voltage 5th wheel, stop by to say hello to the Ferrante’s! In the meantime, you can join all of us in the fun of planning our next RV upgrade.  Thanks to the Ferrante family for allowing us to feature your new rig!
